Trials of the Tritone

Four trials of the tritone: intervals played together, fifth or tritone, chords with a tritone inside, and the devil in music

  1. Harmonic puzzles

    Eight intervals played together, from a minor second to a major seventh. Name each.

  2. The twin fifths

    Eight intervals: a perfect fifth, or the tritone a semitone below it. Don't be fooled.

  3. The diminished vault

    Eight chords. Four kinds carry a tritone inside (diminished, half-diminished, diminished seventh, dominant seventh), and the fifth, major, is the steady one. Name each.

  4. Boss: the devil in musicBOSS

    Ten intervals up, down and together: a fourth, a tritone or a fifth. The tritone used to be called diabolus in musica. Name eight.
