Frequently asked questions
- What is chord quality?
- Chord quality describes the interval structure of a chord - whether it sounds happy (major), sad (minor), tense (dominant 7), dark (diminished) or bright (augmented).
- What is the difference between block and arpeggio?
- Block plays all notes simultaneously. Arpeggio plays them one after another, which can make it easier to hear the intervals that give each quality its character.
- What makes a Dominant 7 different from a Major 7?
- A Major 7 uses a major seventh interval (e.g. C–B), giving it a lush, jazzy sound. A Dominant 7 uses a minor seventh (e.g. C–Bb), creating tension that wants to resolve.
