Frequently asked questions

What is chord quality?
Chord quality describes the interval structure of a chord - whether it sounds happy (major), sad (minor), tense (dominant 7), dark (diminished) or bright (augmented).
What is the difference between block and arpeggio?
Block plays all notes simultaneously. Arpeggio plays them one after another, which can make it easier to hear the intervals that give each quality its character.
What makes a Dominant 7 different from a Major 7?
A Major 7 uses a major seventh interval (e.g. C–B), giving it a lush, jazzy sound. A Dominant 7 uses a minor seventh (e.g. C–Bb), creating tension that wants to resolve.
