The piano plays real recordings, not synthesised tones: it uses the Salamander Grand Piano, a Yamaha C5 sampled every minor third and released under CC BY 3.0. Each sample is fetched only when a note needs it, so nothing loads up front. The synthesised voice is still there as a fallback if a file cannot be reached, and the Synth instrument is synthesised by design.
